Men’s Breakfasts 1st Saturday of each month at 8.00 a.m. at 24 Glen Drive POSADA We are looking for interest and support from members of our community to become involved in the starting what we hope will become a 'Posada' and a traditional event each future Advent. Posada is a Spanish word meaning 'Inn' or 'Shelter' and also describes an old Mexican Tradition where two young people dressed as Mary and Joseph travelled from house to house during Advent asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus. The modern day Posada uses a Figurine of Mary and Joseph shown on their journey to Bethlehem. The figurine is carried between houses where they remain overnight before being moved on the next day. The concept is that those who take part are willing to make room for Jesus in their Posada. This gives each host family an overnight opportunity to create their own unique celebration. It may also provide an opportunity for them to invite neighbours or others to join in their symbolic 'Making Room for Jesus' in their home. At the transfer it is usual for some simple prayers to be shared. It may also be appropriate for this to be followed by the sharing of a simple snack or drinks and maybe sing a carol or two. Each host family will decide for themselves what they want to do. Before Advent a central and dated register will be drawn up of those who want to take part. This will contain addresses and phone numbers so that hosts can agree and confirm when the Figurine will be transferred. We are currently wanting to expand this to include more families with children. It does not matter if they are not regular attenders at any of our Churches. If you are interested and would like to take part contact Ken Mainey on 702556.
